APRIRE NUOVI CIELI was born from the will of organising a public walk in Castelfranco Veneto. Through the preparatory discussion among the experts of the Municipal Administration – Environmental Office and ULSS n.2 Marca Trevigiana – Prevention Department some strategies for the ideation of a public walk were established, by invitating the artist and performer Leonardo Delogu to the planning of a path for the exploration on foot of the territory of Castelfranco Veneto.
After a careful analysis of the local territory and after a few inspections, which took place between March and April 2015, a path has been defined aimed at clarifying the relationships that exist between urban center and suburbs, planned areas and new urban projects depending on the presence of residual areas.
The experience involved, from the beginning, the high schools of the territory. A series of workshops preparatory to the walk was organized within the different institutes and saw the involvement of students and teachers.
As part of the project, two public walks were organized, one open to citizens, held on 12th April 2015, the other, on the same route, aimed at students who participated in the workshops, on 17 October 2015.
The activities of APRIRE NUOVI CIELI also lead to the rise of the exhibition with the same name, inaugurated on 21st November 2015 at the Museo Casa Giorgione in Castelfranco Veneto.
Images, videos, texts and installations made by high school students have built an exhibition with a strongly interdisciplinary character highlighting the educational peculiarities of the different institutes that have joined the project.
The schools that were involved were: I.T.C.G. “A: Martini”, I.P.S.I.A. “G. Galilei”, I.T.T. “E. Barsanti”, I.S.I.S. “F. Nightingale”, I.S.I.S.S. “D. Sartor”, I.S.I.S.S. “C. Rosselli”.
As part of the project and the internship at the Environmental Office of the Municipality of Castelfranco Veneto, the students Giovanni Pastore, Giulia De Toni, Elisa Trento, Beatrice Toffoletto, Ana Constantinescu collaborated on the setting up of the exhibition together with the curator Massimo Sordi.
APRIRE NUOVI CIELI represents the origin of the OMNE project. Since 2016 OMNE – Osservatorio Mobile Nord Est has kept on supporting, through different “actions”, the interest in exploring the landscape we inhabit.
“Walking around the borders of town. Walking across the paradoxes of the outskirts. Taking a break, just listening, testing the contiguity between the body and the landscape. If you leave the main streets behind and go on foot into spaces where human construction is less dense, it is possible to look into parts of the urban fabric that remain inaccessible to normal modes of awareness and perception, both of which are conditioned by the constant practice of moving around by car or the habit of going down certain routes because of one’s daily obligations. The journey is configured as a total perceptive experience, in which none of the senses is neglected, a ‘physically venturing into the nakedness of the world’, which reveals the face in the shadow, out of the ordinary, of the cities we inhabit. (L. Delogu)
