L’erba è verde e c’è una vasta, selvaggia vegetazioneMARINA CANEVEMarina Caneve developed her research during the artist residency “Nature” in the indoor and outdoor spaces of the Botanical Garden of Padua, wondering how to hold together the landscape of this hortus cinctus, the landscape of the world and the landscape of our imagination. “The idea of a botanical garden makes Luigi Ghirri’s Atlas resonate in my mind, a different physical and mental space that contains within itself a multiplicity of spaces of imagination where a succession of environments allows us to move between sub-Saharan Africa, Oceania, Europe, without ever leaving the perimeter of the 2.2 hectares of the Botanical Garden of Padua. A space of the imagination, a eulogy of plants that, however, unlike Gilles Clément’s vagabonds did not arrive there by chance but by meticulous tracing and drawing of the landscape. An atlas that necessarily brings us face to face with the contradictions of the contemporary, with our relationship with the wilderness, the exotic and even the grass on the side of the road.” (M.C.)
