tOUR is conceived from the encounter between Olivo Barbieri’s photographic archive and a selection of ancient volumes held in the Malatestiana Library of Cesena. The book creates a dialogue between contemporary images and historical representations, weaving a narrative of the landscape as a layering of times, perspectives, and languages. The contemporary Italian landscapes captured from above by Barbieri reveal a complex and, in some ways, enigmatic territory, where human intervention overlaps with long-established patterns, highlighting historical layers or uncovering latent visual dimensions. The illustrations drawn from ancient volumes of the Malatestiana, carefully selected from the Library’s collections, provide a counterpoint to the contemporary images, an iconographic mirror that amplifies their scope and invites reflection on time and identity in the Italian landscape. Through an analogical approach, Barbieri’s images resonate with older depictions of the Italian territory – maps, city views, and iconographies of monuments – opening a reflection on the processes of sedimentation and transformation in the landscape. Published on the occasion of the exhibition tOUR at the Malatestiana Library of Cesena (June 26 – September 28, 2025), the book is part of OMNE LAND. Altre Tempeste, supported by Strategia Fotografia 2024 and promoted by the Directorate-General for Contemporary Creativity of the Ministry of Culture.
