In 2021 Irina Rozovsky and Mark Steinmetz were invited to participate in two photographic projects in Italy, one in Castelfranco Veneto (Veneto region) and the other in Lecce (Puglia region). The intended subject to guide the work was ‘nature’; a word with many variations in meaning in the context of today’s diverse and fragmented landscape, which constantly reflects our lives and conditions the way we observe reality. This book brings together a selection of photographs by artists from these two Italian regions so distant from each other. These are places where nature is revealed through different forms of expression and where the relationship between body and space, captured in a combination of light and shadow, seems to take on an inconsistent and sometimes absolute value. Insieme tells of a photographic experience in Italy that was composed in the form of an intimate and personal diary. The photographs of Rozovsky and Steinmetz, with the dual gaze of the artists gently organizing a narrative structure, stand side by side, alternating in harmony with a discontinuous and fluctuating rhythm, as in the episodes of life. These images, which seem almost ready to capture unexpected events and unusual encounters but mostly moments of shared daily life, express a singular familiarity with the places they are found, conveying the natural character of their authenticity.
