Panoramas of Silence. Slow incursions into the historic landscape. Monte Grappa 1987-2020GIANANTONIO BATTISTELLAFor Gianantonio Battistella, Monte Grappa is a place to study and dissect, an object to be “verified” through the lens of the camera. Made in the mid-eighties, his photographs return the landscape of Monte Grappa through a succession of photographic sequences organized in the form of triptych or polyptych. The consistency of photographic production on this subject and the insistence of the photographer on the series communicates the importance of a private archive that preserves, in addition to the visual imagination of a territory, the secrets of experimental practices conducted on photographic matter. “In 1987, we started to climb Monte Grappa together to take shots ourselves, Guido with his Deardorf 8×10 and me with my Hasselblad SWC, which I had acquired shortly before. I quickly realized that the 6×6 small format could not have included the endless breadth of the landscape before us, and so I decided to place three frames side by side, covering a 210° angle of view which approximately corresponded to the field of view of the lookout, going from one side to the other. During the following years, I continued my Work exhibited during OMNEFEST2021 (Villa Parco Bolasco – University of Padua, 4th September – 1st November 2021) and published in the book “OMNE/BEAUTY 2018-2020” (Skinnerboox, Jesi 2021)
