SpecimenGIORGIO DI NOTODuring his “Nature” residency, Giorgio di Noto found the ideal place to experiment with his idea of nature at the Botanical Garden of Padua, where the possible relationships between the terms “natural” and “artificial” seem to find their own interaction here, albeit one that is constantly changing. But in the increasingly fragile contemporary world, can nature and artifice, the reality external to man and that produced by him, still coexist? “As part of the OMNE NATURE residency, I tried to work on the relationship between ‘nature’ and ‘artifice,’ two terms naturally in opposition. There are places where both seem to coexist, where what is natural can only exist because of an artificial dimension. The Botanical Garden of Padua and its biology laboratories immediately seemed to me a perfect place to experience this hybrid dimension, where to observe how nature and artifice intertwine from both a material and conceptual point of view. Following these premises, I photographed these spaces to try to investigate an artificially natural dimension, such as that of controlled, exposed, studied and analyzed vegetation. Can something that is made artificially spontaneous be called natural?” (G.d.N.)
